Burning Man Festival 2010

August 30 - September 6, 2010

The gate line at dawn
We arrived at the gate at dawn with the Tin Pickle in tow, heading for a rendezvous. We were joining up with a group of friends we had not yet met: other posters from Airforums, people who love both Airstreams and Burning Man enough to put them together in the same place.

An unusual flower garden

Burning Man combines amazing creativity, challenging self sufficiency, strong community involvement and a festive spirit. Oh, and there's fire there too...lots of fire.

Every year is different - a different over all theme, different art, different weather (variations on heat and dust), different amazing mobile creations.

We're just beyond the non-Airstream

The theme for 2010 was "Metropolis" so all the arced streets were named after cities. The radial spoke streets were, as usual, named for clock positions. Our Airstream camp (Airstreameri and Geologists) was placed at 2:45 and Baghdad.

Rainbow

We had some rain shortly after we arrived, which led to a gorgeous double rainbow. It also stopped any travel around Black Rock City, since the caked mud makes walking difficult and bicycling impossible.

Bart started his volunteer Black Rock City Ranger job this year. It's his way of giving back to the community. BRC Rangers provide assistance and mediation that helps keep the place running smoothly.

We were welcomed into the Airstream community and value the friendships we formed there. The jovial potluck was followed by a lecture on the geology of the Black Rock Desert.
